Thats the title to a CNN article I read this morning.  As usual I take all such articles with a grain of salt, but at the end they quoted Daniel Eran Dilger and I have to admit to laughing out loud.  I’m not going to quote it here cause I’ve not bothered to figure out CNN’s policy there of, but go ahead and click on the article and scroll down to the bottom (or just go straight to Mr Dilger’s site and read the whole thing), I bet you’ll enjoy it too.

King Arthur Flour Co.

Posted March 16, 2011 By Ruth

I recently suggested to another blogger that the cooking ingredient they were looking for was availible at KAF, and it occurred to me that the company as a whole deserved a blog post.

First off let me state, I purchase stuff from KAF on as regular a basis as I can afford and am receiving nothing from them in return for this post.

Ok, you enjoy baking, or are attempting to learn to bake, or are just looking for good quality ingredients (or occasionally hard to find ones) you need to take the time to wander over to their site.  Just hide the credit cards first or you’ll regret it….

King Arthur Flour Co is an employee owned company based out of Vermont USA.  They pride themselves on high quality ingredients and they certinally have them.  You may be able to buy their all purpose flour in your local supermarket, and some even carry some of their pre-mixed mixes for various things.  They have wonderfull customer service, and are more than willing to answer general baking questions whether the question pertains to their products or not.

I purchase larges amounts of their Vermont chedder cheese powder for the making of homemade “Smart Food” popcorn (it keeps very well for long periods of time in the freezer) as well as a huge number of other things (homemade mac&cheese anyone?), my husband and I both adore their Buttermilk pancake mix, and their popover mix ALWAYS “pops” no matter whats going on around the house.

They sell a huge selection of basic ingredients too, as well as a huge number of ingredients that aren’t so basic!  Ever wanted to know what the difference was between the different kinds of vanilla extract? Go take a look at their Vanilla Sample pack

Know someone who needs a gluten free diet but misses eating bread on a regular basis?  Point them towards KAF’s Gluten free line of products, they not only have a selection of mixes that are gluten free, they have a nice selection of the various ingredients to make your own!

If you or someone you know bakes take them time to look over their website or catalog, its worth it!

My yearly order of jeans arrived today…..

Posted March 14, 2011 By Ruth

Yes you read that correctly.  I order my jeans once a year from one company.  I MIGHT if I get lucky at some point during the rest of the year buy a pair or two locally, but I’ve had a horrible time trying to find jeans that fit off the shelves.

See, I need a 29 or 30 inch inseam, the average pair of women’s jeans you pull off the shelves (even the petite sizes) are 4 to 8 inches longer than that, which means I end up doing one of two things (well, three if you count trip over them….), I either re-hem them (which always looks so weird), or roll them up a million times (which tends to also look weird when there’s that much fabric involved).

So imagine my surprise when I discovered that Victoria’s Secret not only sells reasonable quality jeans, they sell reasonable quality jeans in a size and inseam that FIT me!  Ok, they’re not cheap, though this time of year they often have at least some on sale, but they hold up remarkably well to general wear and tear, and they FIT.

So every year after I do my taxes I order a couple new pairs of jeans.

*I bought all above mentioned jeans from VS with my own money and am receiving no kickback of any kind for this post.

….for the lack of real posts, for those of you who’ve never had the chance to rear a pup from the tender age of 10 weeks, its like having a cross between a 10week old infant and a 2yr old toddler in the house…..with occasional flashes of 10yrs thrown in for fun.  So I’m a bit beat at the moment.  On the other hand we maybe finally getting somewhere, if my husband takes him out before he goes to bed, about 2:30-3am-ish, then he’ll sleep till after 7am, and today it was even almost 9am before he woke up!

I have been collecting bits and pieces of video, which I plan to compile to show off, promise!

What can I say, occasionally humanity scares me.

Cop who fired taser 28 times thought it didn’t hurt.

Better hope you’re not in the bathroom when the plane decompresses!

Some I found via and some I found elsewhere…..

Ever be driving down the highway and end up behind someone who’s afraid of passing tractor trailers? It can be funny to watch and frustrating to be stuck behind.  Well, some guy over in Europe got away with using that fear as an excuse for speeding!

The Amtrak Cheif of Police has barred the TSA from security operations on its properties till further notice….something about insisting on scanning everyone who entered the terminal…..

You know, if the police were knocking on my door 50+ times over the last 8 years and always ended up having the wrong house I think I’d have already been in court over the matter, and I’m not the sueing type!!

So…..whats the difference between a tattoo gun, a caulk gun, a water gun, and a glue gun?  One will get you suspended from school!

Ever wondered if the Medical Drug giants are price gouging their customers?  Wonder no more…..

Turns out New Hampshire isn’t the only state thats fed-up with the TSA, you can include Texas, New Jersey, and maybe even Hawaii, in that list too!

We got 21 inches.

And yet more snow

Posted March 7, 2011 By Ruth

Not long after my previous post the weather folks upped their forcast to 10-12inches for Syracuse proper (and I may not be in the city, but there’s certinally that much on my front porch at the moment). That will put the season totals for the city at over 170inches. With the rest of March, all of April, and maybe even some of May ( yes May, my first year in the area we had actual accumulation on Mother’s day) to still add to the total. The season record is 190inches. I’d be perfectly happy not breaking that record this year…….

Edited to add, that although the abomindable snow puppy LOVES snow, and snow drifts and piles, he doesn’t like snow when its up to the cute little bare patch on his belly the WHOLE time he’s out there…..
